Frozen is the 53rd movie from the Disney franchise and is based on the wildly popular children’s story by Hans Christian Anderson called The Snow Queen. The movie, which released in 2013, garnered over $1.3 billion in revenue globally, of which more than one third came from the United States alone. Such was the popularity of the movie that it even won two awards at the 2013 Oscars – for the best song and the best animated movie, along with a couple of Grammy awards and a BAFTA and Golden Globe. All in all, definitely a great haul!
n 2015, Disney released a follow-up short sequel titled Frozen Fever and also announced a sequel with no current expected release date. Frozen follows the story of Elsa and Anna, the would-be queen of Arendelle and her sister. Elsa possesses magical powers that allow her to wield snow and ice. Since Elsa is not in control of her powers, their parents isolate them in the family castle. Upon their death, Elsa ascends to the throne while at the same time Anna meets Hans, a prince of a neighbouring state, and the young couple fall in love. Intending to get married, they seek Elsa’s blessings, who refuses outright.
In the argument that follows between the sisters, Elsa, unable to control her powers, unleashes a powerful magical spell on the kingdom, leaving it in perpetual winter while she flees in panic to the mountains. Anna pursues her to the mountains and in another terrible argument between the sisters, she is struck in the hearth with an accidental ice bolt from Elsa. Unless she receives an ‘act of true love’, she will be frozen solid forever! Racing back to Arendelle, Anna’s party seek Hans to kiss her and undo the magic.
Unbeknownst to them, Hans has also set off for Elsa’s palace. Upon the fight that ensues between Elsa and Hans, Elsa is knocked unconscious and imprisoned by Hans. When they re-unite, Hans reveals he never loved Anna and was only interested in gaining the kingdom for himself. Elsa flees Arendelle, followed by Hans in hot pursuit. When they meet, Anna throws herself between them to prevent Hans killing Elsa. With this act of true love, Anna has fulfilled the prophecy and lives on! Now realizing that true love is the only way to conquer her powers, Elsa devotes her life to helping others and successfully manages to rule her kingdom without any further mishaps.
